V 1943 nahradil zastaralé Buffalo ako jeden z hlavných stíhacích strojov vo Fínskom letectve nový  Messerschmitt Bf 109G. Fínska armáda urobila objednávku na 162 kusov s toho 48ks verzie G-2, 111 kusov verzie G-6 a 3 kusy G-8. Nové moderné stíhačky mali pomôcť Fínskemu letectvu v tzv. "pokračovacej vojne" a nahradiť staršie tipy (MS-406, Fokker D.XXI, Gloster Gladiator...) použité na zastavenie útokov letectva Sovietskeho Zväzu v predošlej "zimnej vojne"...
